COURT HOUSE – Over 5,775 pairs of new or gently used shoes were collected and will raise funds to support the missionary team from Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, in Court House, to build a house in Guatemala this summer.
According to a release, the shoes collected will be repurposed and create a livelihood for individuals from a Third World country.
Classes are taught to those individuals and then 150 pairs of shoes are given to them. Once they sell six pairs, they may purchase more, so their stock is continuously replenished with new inventory. New shoe entrepreneurs are established.
One woman was able to send her son to law school from selling used shoes. Sixty cents a day became $60. Future livelihoods will be a direct result of the outpouring from Cape May County.
There are many organizations, businesses, and people that helped make this possible. The church’s missionary team extended its heartfelt gratitude to all who participated.
