DENNIS TOWNSHIP — Dennis Township 7th graders recently enjoyed their annual field trip to Washington, DC.
Students split into walking groups with staff chaperones to explore the Smithsonian museums and national monuments and memorials.
Students this year toured the US Capitol building with most groups also seeing the Senate chamber and one group seeing the House of Representatives gallery.
Arranged through Senator Booker’s office, the Capitol tour unfortunately did not include meeting any legislators as Congress was on recess during the field trip.
Organizer and 7th grade language arts teacher Amanda Unkle begins the process of scheduling the springtime adventure in September.
“Each year we try to do something a little different for the students so it is a memorable experience for them,” Unkle explains.
Prior classes have toured the White House, the Capitol and met with Congressman Frank LoBiondo.
She hopes next year they will be able to meet with Congressman LoBiondo or Senator Booker or Menendez as part of the tour.
