Olympic Gold Medalist Named Grand Marshal for Ocean City’s Night in Venice

Luikin

By Press Release

OCEAN CITY – Nastia Liukin will serve as grand marshal for the 62nd annual Night in Venice boat parade July 16.
Liukin was a five-time Olympic gymnastics medalist and the all-around champion at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. She will work as an NBC Sports commentator for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Liukin is known to many from her appearances in “Dancing With the Stars” and numerous other television shows.
Liukin will highlight a parade lineup that includes “The Voice” contestant Gina Castanzo, members of the Philadelphia Eagles, the cast of Ocean City Theatre Company’s “The Little Mermaid,” a St. Augustine Prep a cappella choir, an Elton John tribute boat and a wide array of entries decorated to fit the 2016 theme “Destination America.” For the first time in more than four decades, a spectacular fireworks display will cap off the bayfront celebration at the conclusion of the parade.
Night in Venice is the pinnacle of the summer season in Ocean City — with thousands of spectators lining the bayfront and thousands more attending private parties at homes along the route from the Ocean City-Longport Bridge to Tennessee Avenue.
