Avalon Free Public Library Hosts Successful Open House

Library Open House

By Press Release

AVALON – The Avalon Free Public Library hosted an Open House June 18 which hosted more than 1,000 attendees of all ages. The event featured a variety of children’s activities including face painting, balloons, a bounce house, a juggler and even a story time with Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Participants were able to experience a variety of live demonstrations on featured library resources including Freegal, Flipster, OverDrive, Hoopla, Lynda.com, Mango Languages and more.
In addition, visitors were encouraged to apply for a library card which was available to both residents and non-residents. New this year, the library announced that seasonal patron cards would also be available at no charge, allowing vacationers to take advantage of what the library has to offer.
“I don’t think people realize the full breath of what we offer here, and the Open House gave us the opportunity to showcase the long list of resources and services that the library provides,” said Library Director, Norman Gluckman.
The Avalon Free Public Library is open year-round and hosts a variety of children’s activities, educational programs and online resources, as well as offering more than 60,000 books and e-books in circulation. The Library received 5 stars in Library Journal’s national rating of public libraries, based on statistical performance data collected by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
