Avalon Free Public Library Announces 2016 Bay Atlantic Symphony Concerts

AVALON — In celebration of its 10th year featuring the Bay Atlantic Symphony and its popular Symphony by the Sea series conducted by Music Director Jed Gaylin, the Avalon Free Public Library announces a spectacular schedule of performances for the summer of 2016. The concerts are scheduled for July 16 and Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Avalon Elementary School, 235 32nd St.
July 16 – “Opera Gala”:
Jed Gaylin presents “Opera Gala” featuring two opera singers, soprano Lori Hultgren and tenor Alok Kumar. The duo will perform popular selections from “La Boheme,” “Tosca,” “Madame Butterfly,” “Rigoletto,” “La Forza del Destino,” and more.
Aug. 13 – “Oceans and Mountains”:
Featuring a musical piano tour starting with Mozart Overture to Idomeneo. This unique concert will also feature 13-year-old prodigy Gavin George performing “Mozart Piano Concert No. 5.” George has been performing for 10 years, and has played with a number of national and international orchestras, as well as hosting a concerto and solo recital in Italy at the Perugia Music Festival. Following George, the concert will conclude with Beethoven Symphony No. 7.
Tickets for each performance are free of charge, and available to the general public at the library two weeks prior to each performance. Seating for the concerts are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Avalon Free Public Library is celebrating its 10th anniversary and has received a 5-star rating in the Library Journal’s national rating of public libraries. Attendees are encouraged to “Check It Out” and visit the library to browse the wide range of programs and services offered including Hoopla, OverDrive, Freegal, TumbleBooks and more. The library’s extensive collection includes classics, best sellers, movies, video games and a wide range of reference information.
