COURT HOUSE – The first Cape May County Fall Participant Retreat was held Oct. 6 at the Lighthouse Church in Cape May Court House. The purpose of this retreat was to give the Cape May County Drug Court participants the opportunity to obtain information from several different agencies.
The participants were welcomed to the retreat with remarks from Vicinage I Assignment Judge Julio Mendez, Drug Court Judge John Porto and Assemblyman Bob Andrzejcak. Donna Plaza, Statewide Drug Court Coordinator, Howard Berchtold, Trial Court Administrator and Sharnett Clark, Vicinage I Chief Probation Officer were also in attendance. A powerful message was delivered from the keynote speaker Michael DeLeon from the Steered Straight Program. Presenters volunteered from several local agencies such as Cape Assist, Cooperative Care, Cape Counseling, Enlightened Solutions, Speakers for Change and South Jersey Legal Services to name a few. Twenty-nine workshops were offered to the 140 participants. Presentations were given on areas related to recovery, stress management and life skills. The support from our community was overwhelming for the retreat.
