By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – As a result of widespread availability of the seasonal flu shot from local pharmacies, the Cape May County Department of Health has replaced the Drive-through Flu Clinic with fifteen community flu clinics throughout the County. The no charge flu clinics are posted at www.cmchealth.net under hot topics. If you have any questions about the upcoming flu clinics, or about the flu vaccine feel free to call the flu hotline at (609) 463-6581. The high- dose vaccine for individuals 65 and older is available by one’s primary care physician or local pharmacies.
“We understand the importance of our residents receiving their annual flu shot to protect themselves, and others. We have added additional flu clinics to our schedule this year to assure that all of our residents have an opportunity to receive their flu shot. Flu shots are also offered at one’s primary care office and local pharmacies,” stated Kevin Thomas, Health Officer Cape May County Department of Health.
Center for Disease Control defines influenza, or seasonal flu, as a contagious illness that infects the nose, throat, and lungs. The flu is spread by droplets, which are made when an individual coughs, sneezes or talks. The droplets can land on surfaces or an individual, which can result in the spread of the infection. Individuals at the highest risk of developing flu related complications are individuals 65 years and older, people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease, pregnant women, individuals with low immune system, and young children. People who have the flu often feel some of these signs and symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Sore Throat
  • Runny or Stuffy Nose
  • Muscle or Body Aches
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue (very tired)

The best way to prevent the flu is by getting an annual flu shot. It is also important to wash your hands, staying home if sick, and covering cough and sneezes.
