“Hurri-Kanen” Strikes Avalon; Tour de Shore Raises over $5,000 for Local Family

Kanen Wear

By Press Release

AVALON – Hundreds of Avalon seasonal residents joined in support of a worthy cause at the 31st annual Tour De Shore event.
This year’s annual event raised $5,400 for Kanen Wear, a local 10-year-old battling Ewing sarcoma for the second time.
Wear was featured on the Herald’s Aug. 8 front page after he met the Philadelphia Eagles.
Wear fought Ewing sarcoma for 11 months, underwent 14 rounds of chemotherapy and 32 days of radiation at the age of 5.
He relapsed after four years of being cancer-free.
According to a release the event was organized by Avalon seasonal renters who are passionate about their town.
Tour De Shore is an event in which shore house groups come up with themes and dress in costumes and fun outfits while touring Avalon’s local bars and eateries.
Organized by Philadelphia-resident, Amanda Cole, this year’s event turned out to be a huge success as she looks to expand the event in the future. “Avalon is our summer home, and as seasonal tenants, we are always looking for ways to give back to the local community,” explained Cole.
“We are so excited to have helped out Kenan and his family, and look forward to what the future holds for this annual event and the charitable contributions we can continue to make.”
Liz Tracy, an owner of the Princeton Bar & Grill, looks forward to the event each season. “Tour de Shore is one of the most fun and entertaining events of the summer,” stated Tracy. “It’s great to be a spectator or to participate, and is all for a good cause.”
This year’s winner went over the top themed as the “Royal wedding” including a live horse and carriage, professional bagpipers and authentic royal costumes.
