COURT HOUSE – Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family and Community Health Sciences Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group will hold their next meeting on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County, 355 Courthouse-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey. The building is handicap accessible.
Guest Speakers Detective Kyle MacDonald and Detective Dale Gerber, Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office will present the program, “Keeping Kids Safe on Social Media, Gaming, and Computer Platforms.” Grandparents will learn about unsafe platforms and social media sites that are geared to attract children and steps to take to keep children safe on-line. Chris Zellers, MMP, Family and Community Health Sciences Educator/Assistant Professor for Cape May County, said, “This information is so important to help our grandparents stay on top of the new developments in these areas and empower them with knowledge to help keep their grandchildren safe.”
Zellers oversees the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program that meets 10 months each year providing information and support to Cape May County grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. New families are always welcome at the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group. Childcare will be provided for the grandchildren and a light supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. with the program following at 6 p.m. There is no charge for this program, however, advanced registration is required by February 10, 2023. Our speakers are part of the Cape May County Prosecutor’s community outreach program which is dedicated to preparing and providing up to date presentations for students and school staff, community organizations, law enforcement professionals, and members of the general public on sensitive and important topics such as; drug awareness and prevention, gang awareness, sexting, bullying, cyber bullying and general internet safety as well as financial crimes, domestic violence, victim advocacy, human trafficking, child abuse and sexual assault.
