WOODBINE – Woodbine has dedicated its commemoration of this year’s Coast Guard birthday to the late Coast Guard Rear Admiral David E. Ciancaglini, a native son of Woodbine who passed away earlier this year.
The Coast Guard is celebrating its 227rd year this Aug. 4. The history of the United States Coast Guard goes back to the Revenue Cutter Service, which was founded Aug. 4, 1790, as part of the Department of the Treasury.
The Borough of Woodbine is home to the United State Coast Guard Uniform Distribution Center. The entire County of Cape May has been designated a “Coast Guard Community”.
July 28, at 11 a.m., representatives of the United States Coast Guard Uniform Distribution Center will join with family members of the late Rear Admiral Ciancaglini in a photoshoot to commemorate both the 227th birthday of the Coast Guard and to honor Admiral Ciancaglini.
