Coast Guard Cannon Fires in Tribute to Late President Bush

Petty Officers Kirby Graves and Austin Rucker honor the passing of President George H. W. Bush

CAPE MAY — U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May personnel honored the late former President George H.W. Bush, in accordance with Commandant Instruction 5000.3B, with the flag being flown at half-mast and a saluting battery of cannon fire from 8 a.m. until sunset that day.
“On behalf of the military and civilian personnel and the recruits of U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, we send our heartfelt condolences to the Bush family,” stated Capt. Owen Gibbons, commanding officer of Coast Guard Training Center Cape May in a release.
“Recruits, here, are taught respect for the chain-of-command and for the offices and positions appointed over them. Today they will experience, first-hand, how our service honors the office of the President during our observance of former President Bush’s passing.”
