The Details Reflect the Couple

By Herald Staff

Alexis Boles Batten and John Andrew Binder IV were married on Nov. 10, 2011 at Our Lady Star of the Sea in Cape May. The reception was held in Congress Hall.
Alexis recalls…
I do not have a favorite memory from the wedding day, but rather look back at those 72 hours as if they were a dream.
Surrounded by friends and family, Jack and I committed to spending the rest of our lives with each other — our best friend.
I enjoyed every moment, and nothing could have impacted my excitement. It rained unexpectedly; the buttons on my dress began to fall off right before we were supposed to leave for the church. Normally a control freak, I remained unaffected by it all.
Jack and I are so very lucky to have the families that we have. Their hard work and love made the day — no weekend — as special as it was, and we will remain eternally grateful to them.
We are both from Cape May County. Our parents still reside here. We met at Wildwood Catholic High School, where Jack proposed in February of 2010.
After having moved away for more than 10 years, we recently decided to relocate to Cape May County to be closer to our parents, and so that Jack could begin to work with his father at Ferguson Dechert Real Estate in Avalon.
We chose to be married in Cape May so that our guests — both those residing in the county and those traveling from afar — could share this special place with us.
It was important to both of us to have the details of the wedding reflect us as a couple. For example, Jack’s parents were married at Our Lady Star of the Sea 30 years ago; we served cheesecakes from George’s Place, a restaurant we frequent. Our high school guidance counselor and friend, Brother Robert Carson, married us.
Our rehearsal dinner was held at the Cape May Winery and catered by the Washington Inn — a restaurant special to both of our families, owned by dear friends. George’s Place also catered the brunch at the Binder’s home on Sunday morning.
