David and Alicia Billig of Ocean View were married on Oct. 2, 2010.
Alicia recalls:
Dave and I met in Cape May County Technical High School — French class, to be specific — almost six years ago. (After high school, we both graduated from Richard Stockton College. of NJ. Dave is currently the welder for Avalon Awning Company, and in the off season, is a substitute teacher at our former high school. I, myself, am currently employed by Cape Bank in Court House.
We currently live in Ocean View with our dog, Brooke, in the home that Dave grew up in.
Although we had been engaged for over a year, we really didn’t start planning any of the details of our wedding until about three months before the actual date. And I’m glad we procrastinated, because we didn’t stretch out our stress.
It sounds like a cliché, but our wedding was just about perfect!
Cold Spring Village was the perfect setting for our ceremony; we both wanted to get married outside, and the Village’s gazebo worked out perfectly. There’s so much history there, and some great backdrops for our pictures.
I will admit that I was a bit worried about the weather, since it had been raining for a week straight prior to our wedding, but we got extremely lucky, because Saturday turned out to be beautiful, with no rain or clouds in sight. However, Sunday was another story, as it was pouring rain again.
After our wedding, we headed to the reception at Alethea’s Restaurant in Cape May, but first stopped at the beach for a few more photos.
Alethea’s was great; I dropped off all of our stuff the day before, and everything was taken care of when we got there. The staff was great and the food was delicious. The room we were in didn’t even need to be decorated.
We got our cake from Ward’s Pastry in Ocean City, and everyone loved it. We had our friend Danielle O’Neal, do our photography and we couldn’t have been happier with the results.
To save money, we did not hire a DJ; we just recruited our friend, JW, to be our “iPod DJ” and he did very well. Overall everything turned out great.
We didn’t go crazy, we just kept it simple, and everyone had a great time.
We chose to get married in Cape May County because we are both lifelong residents of the county. This is where we were born, raised, and now married.
