The term ‘casual family dining’ is right on the mark when Phil Barber, chef/proprietor of the Avalon Links uses it to describe his restaurant.
“It’s convenient for everybody—families, golfers, the business lunch crowd,” he said.
Located at 1510 Rt. 9 North in Swainton, just in front of the Avalon Golf Club, passersby might mistake it for a private golf club. Don’t be intimidated. Stop in; you will not be disappointed.
Avalon Links boasts an extensive lunch menu.
“Everything from grilled cheese sandwiches to fresh fish specials,” Barber noted. “We also make our own soups, and we do a strong lunch business because we can do a quick turnaround, if that’s what you need.”
But if you want to have your dining experience leisurely, you can take advantage of that also.
Avalon Links recently expanded their banquet facilities, having more than doubled the size of their back room that overlooks the picturesque 18th green. It now comfortably accommodates 250.
Known for their house soups, Barber is especially proud of his own version of claims casino, a selection which also is a hit with the take-out crowd.
“We sell a lot of soup to go,” Barber said.
Head Chef Ray Mackey is from the casino industry, and Barber claims his prime rib is one of the best in the county.
And how many restaurants offer you a Saturday night special?
“We buck the trend here,” Barber said. “Many restaurants offer you specials every night but Saturday.
Saturday also features live music—a low-key background music.
Friday night also has live entertainment, but it’s more live…more up-tempo.
“More fun!” Barber said.
