The Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program held the 4-H Chopped! Cooking Contest in February at the Erma Fire House. The event was open to all registered 4-H members in Cape May County in grades 4 and up.
Chopped contestants had two hours for food prep and cooking and were judged on creating a table setting, displaying a menu and preparing one dish from their menu. The twist to the contest was that all prepared dishes had to include apples.
The 4-H Cooking Contest is an example of the “learn by doing” approach that the 4-H youth development program teaches. It is sponsored annually by the Kitchen Phanatics 4-H Cooking Club, led by volunteers Gayle Crookston and Adele Faust. Congratulations to all participants. Special thanks to the Erma Volunteer Fire Company for the generous donation of their kitchen.
