Cape Hope Exists to Aid Homeless People

Cape Hope Director Denise Venturini-South

By Press Release

BURLEIGH – In the middle of Cape May County, in Middle Township, in a Code Blue emergency, a group of volunteers, along with their community supporters, stood poised, centered on one mission: to “Love our neighbors as ourselves.”
According to a release, Cape Christian Academy hosted a dinner fundraiser for homeless advocate group Cape Hope. The event spotlighted six members of the Cape Harmonaires barbershop singing group, solo guitarists, and Italian cuisine supplied by Tonio’s from Avalon.
The featured speaker, Cape Hope Director Denise Venturini-South, addressed over100 participants along with the staff and volunteers from Cape Hope, Cape Christian Academy and Cape Community Church at the event that focused on the work of the group.
Along with its daily mission as advocates for the homeless, Cape Hope, in association with Cape Community Church, has begun to operate a warming center.
When temperatures reach below 32 degrees, with precipitation…25 without, the church and Cape Hope join hands to open the doors of the Cape Community Family Center, on the corner of Route 9 and Oyster Road.
Once there, visitors are given welcoming support and a comfortable place to rest, if only for one night.
Before leaving each day, breakfast is made available before a Cape May County Fare Free Transportation vehicle arrives to take guests to “The Branches” in Rio Grande.
That is another homeless advocate group, sponsored by St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Stone Harbor. The Branches has been extending its hours during Code Blue in order to provide a warm space for the homeless.
More information on the organization can be found at CapeHopeCares.org, attend monthly meetings, or make a donation.
