Cape Atlantic Woodturners Club to Demonstrate in Strathmere

By Press Release

STRATHMERE — The Strathmere Improvement Association held its first summer meeting on July 15 at the Strathmere Fire Hall. The annual Bergus-Laurence Scholarship certificates and commemorative coins were presented to students who excelled in school last year. Two speakers held the audience riveted.
Ellen Barker, a Neuroscience Nurse who authored 95 articles and 3 texts, spoke about the Zika Virus and how to protect loved ones from this mosquito. David Cummings, a Crisis Safety Leader for DuPont, discussed the nature and danger of rip currents. He explained how to recognize them, and how to save yourself if caught in one.
The Strathmere Improvement Association will hold its next meeting on Aug. 19. Guest presenters will be members of the Cape Atlantic Woodturners Club. Three stations will be set up, and club members will demonstrate how to use lathes to create a variety of wooden art objects. Audience members can try a lathe. One created object will be a door prize! All residents and summer visitors are invited to attend.
The Strathmere Improvement Association was founded in 1951 to help Strathmere and its residents in any way possible. It continues to this day by sponsoring the annual 4th of July parade, helping residents affected by disasters, and raising money for a variety of community causes.
