A little girl or little boy enters a large room with bright lights and walls covered with mirrors reflecting their smiles and excitement. They meet their new friends and are guided by a loving and caring teacher. The music and movement soon begin. Welcome to the beginning of a glorious today and a forever wonderful tomorrow. Yes, this is the magnificent world of the dance studio and all that it cultivates in the minds and bodies of our children.
Joanne Reagan Horn, owner and director of Joanne Reagan Dance Studios, enters her 49th year of teaching. JRD Studios at 1037 Seashore Rd. first opened its doors in 1979, and prior to that, Joanne housed her studio at the Our Lady of the Sea Parish Hall. She first began teaching for her teacher, the late Jerry Love Barber. Joanne has studied under many famous dance icons while attending multiple universities for dance education. She has performed and choreographed for dance festivals, movies and more.
JRD offers a diversified menu of classes for all ages, from toddlers to adults, taught by a staff of experienced and professional instructors. JRD proudly hails its talented and versatile performing companies, well known for their community performances in local parades and civic events. They are also seasoned performers at Walt Disney World’s Magical Music Days. The performing companies are under the direction of Anne Reagan, graduate of the AMDA and professional dancer, choreographer and line captain in “Legends in Concert” in Las Vegas. Anne worked side by side with the late Debbie Reynolds in “That’s Entertainment” and choreographed the movie “Standing Ovation.”
This year, several JRD students were selected as ambassadors for the Shore Stop Dance Convention at the Wildwoods Convention Center in September. Other students were accepted to attend the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and the California Tremaine Summer Intensive. Many JRD alumni have gone on to achieve professional credits including Broadway shows, the Radio City Rockettes, Disney World, national tours, commercials and TV appearances.
