Verizon Expands FiOS into Court House

By Herald Staff

NEWARK-– As it marks its third anniversary of offering FiOS TV across the state, Verizon has expanded its TV service to three more municipalities, bringing to 348 the number of municipalities that have the service. Verizon is now the largest TV provider in New Jersey, exceeding Comcast and Cablevision, in terms of total locations served.
The three additional municipalities where Verizon is offering its award-winning FiOS TV service are: New Brunswick, in Middlesex County; Hamilton Township, in Atlantic County; and Middle Township, in Cape May County.
“Customers in New Jersey have enthusiastically embraced FiOS, which offers a suite of services that old-fashioned cable companies just can’t match,” said Mary Yarbrough, vice president of marketing and sales operations for Verizon’s Mid-Atlantic region. “With choice finally available to them, consumers here have embraced FiOS, which has the most HD channels and the fastest, two-way broadband connection speeds available in the state.”
Verizon launched FiOS TV in New Jersey in December 2006. It’s now available to more than 1.9 million homes and businesses in 19 counties. In addition, as required in the initial systemwide video franchise legislation, Verizon has started offering its FiOS service to the 60 municipalities with the densest populations and every county seat in the company’s service territory in the state.
“Three years ago, we promised to bring our FiOS network to virtually every city in our service area in New Jersey, and today we’re thrilled to announce we’ve done that and more,” said Dennis Bone, president of Verizon New Jersey.
“The cable industry fought hard to keep choice and competition from our New Jersey customers. Despite their efforts, hundreds of thousands of our customers have gladly welcomed FiOS into their homes and have said goodnight to their disco-era cable TV company,” Bone said.
In addition to its meeting its build-out commitments, Verizon has also made public education and government programming available to more than 200 municipalities and has made FiOS TV available to more than 150,000 multiple-dwelling units in New Jersey.
Where FiOS services are available, Verizon offers a number of cost-saving promotions to help customers get the most for their money. All new customers who sign up for a FiOS triple-play bundle by Jan. 16 will receive a $150 Visa prepaid card. The promotion also provides new FiOS customers with $10 a month off for the first year of certain FiOS triple-play bundles. When customers choose FiOS TV as part of their bundles during the promotion, they will receive a Verizon Home Media Digital Video Recorder (DVR) at no additional charge for three months (a $60 value).
“With the holiday season upon us, consumers can take advantage of some very compelling, value-packed offers,” said Yarbrough. “There’s never been a better time to make the move from cable to FiOS.”
FiOS Internet and FiOS TV both topped this year’s J.D. Power customer satisfaction surveys for the East region. In 2009, for the fourth consecutive year, FiOS Internet won a Readers Choice Award from PCMag.com, ranking No. 1 in speed, overall customer satisfaction and reliability in the current survey.
