A tiny token is recognizing a big moment in Whitesboro’s history.
“They’re very unique and very collectible,” said Sheryl D. Cisrow, former Officer-in-Charge at the Whitesboro Post Office. “As a community service, the Postal Service™ offers pictorial postmarks to commemorate local events and honor significant individuals, celebrated in communities throughout the nation.”
The U.S. Postal Service will release a new pictorial postmark and cancelled U.S. First Class Postage Stamp Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018 at the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro at the Annual Whitesboro Reunion Festival located at 207 N. Main St., Whitesboro. The cancellation mark was approved by the USPS headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Della Moses Walker, the NJ Director of the Ebony Society of Philatelic Events and Reflections (ESPER), states that “this special pictorial cancellation postmark becomes part of our nation’s history and creates a lasting keepsake for a lifetime.”
According to Michael Clark, Mayor of Middle Township, plans are underway to find an appropriate location for the new Whitesboro Post Office which we would like to be named the Honorable George H. White Station.
The U.S. Postal Service mobile unit will be on site and available for the public to purchase stamps and receive free Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro special pictorial postmark cancellations. The commemorative Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro postmark will be free, however it can only be placed on first class mail and postage stamps. The pictorial postmark cancellations will be available at the anniversary celebration from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and following the celebration at the Rio Grande Post Office for 30 days. Commemorative Philatelic Cachets will be available for sale.
The postmark was created by Della Moses Walker and Graphic Artists Edward Obropta and Jaylen Walker.
