The Historic Deauville Inn Continues Renovations in Strathmere

In October 2019, Tim Fox and his partner Robin Kjar bought the historic Deauville Inn to restore it to its original beauty and provide a more upscale experience for customers in Strathmere.
Fox, who also owns Fox Rehabilitation, is a Strathmere resident who frequented the Deauville Inn for years before purchasing the property last October. He knew he could make positive changes that would bring the Deauville Inn back to its original look and feel, so he made an offer to the former owners and purchased the property.
The Deauville Inn, previously the Whelan Hotel, dates back to the 1880s. It served as a speakeasy and casino during the prohibition, featuring famous acts including Sophie Tucker, Eddie Cantor, and Jimmy Durante.
With new owners, new chefs, and new menus, Fox knew he could elevate the food and ambiance of the historic venue to keep the 1920’s feel. He enlisted the help of a construction who company were able to help redesign the kitchens, which was a huge part of the renovation because the new cuisine served as the main focus of the project.
The Inn currently has three kitchens with four different cuisines: the main house, a breakfast eatery, the sand bar, and a raw bar. While the main house will feature a gourmet menu, the sand bar will offer a healthier spin on classic beach foods. The goal at the Deauville Inn is to bring everyone together to enjoy the different areas of the property, explore the many different cuisines available, and enjoy unobstructed views of the bay with the most gorgeous sunsets customers have ever seen. They will also be installing new docks so customers can pull their boats or jet skis right up to the inn.
Although the Deauville Inn is still under renovation, the owner’s goal is to be known for its special events. With a private beach, outside patio, covered deck, and beautiful interiors, the Deauville Inn is the perfect place to host weddings, group dinners, corporate functions, and more for up to 250 people. While the Inn no longer has hotel rooms, the team plans to turn the third floor into a bridal suite that will also be available on Air BnB.
Until the Inn can open to the public, the Deauville Inn is offering takeout meals and takeout package goods. They recently brought back their package goods area where people can go to pick up their food orders, beer and wine, and more. They are currently offering a limited menu, but plan to expand their offerings once normal operations resume.
