CAPE MAY – Delta Kappa Gamma, a group of Cape May County educators, presented Todd Salerno of the South Jersey Region office of The American Cancer Society with a check and matching donations for $8,700 as a result of their recent Sixth Annual Beat the Clock Against Breast Cancer 5K run/Two-mile fun walk.
Salerno, in a release, thanked the ladies for all their efforts and for the money that is “bringing us closer to finding a cure for breast cancer and helping many patients and their families get through difficult times.”
Delta Kappa Gamma put on this event as part of their community service efforts. They don’t have a budget for advertising; they don’t have the benefit of the Komen logo or network; they don’t have a huge work force. What they do have is a little time, a strong commitment to ending the disease, and a lot of effort fit into their daily lives as educators that they commit to the cause.
Through the sponsorship of local businesses and the involvement of the community, Delta Kappa Gamma has had six successful 5K runs/2-mile walks for breast cancer; each year, they have been able to donate more.
In the past six years, their small, community event has been responsible for donations totaling $34,550, “A pretty big sum from such a small group, proving that everyone can and does make a difference in the fight against this awful disease,” the release stated.
