COURT HOUSE — Cape Regional Health System has announced the appointment of David Tarantino, M.D. as the Chief Medical Officer, effective June 16, 2014.
“It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. David Tarantino to Cape Regional Health System,” stated Joanne Carrocino, FACHE, President and CEO at Cape Regional Medical Center. “Dr. Tarantino’s strong clinical background coupled with his extensive experience in medical staff leadership and development will be a tremendous benefit to the Health System as we continue to grow to meet the needs of our community.”
Dr. Tarantino received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Brown University. He completed his anesthesiology residency training and pain medicine fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and he is Board-Certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration with Honors from the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola College in Maryland. Dr. Tarantino also brings 17 years of experience at Shock Trauma Medical Center, a 100-bed trauma center in Baltimore. As the Executive Medical Director of Shock Trauma Associates, he was responsible for a 60 physician, multispecialty practice associated with the University of Maryland School of Medicine and was also the Medical Director of the Operating Rooms and Peri-Operative Services as well as Associate Director of the Division of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Tarantino has extensive experience in Medical Staff Leadership and Training. He previously served as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a senior consultant with The Greeley Company where he provides education on key Medical Staff leadership roles and responsibilities. He also lectures on both clinical and business topics and is a faculty member at The University of Maryland where he teaches “The Business of Medicine” course. In addition, he is a national columnist for The Physician Executive Journal and has published over 44 columns on physician issues including performance management, conflict resolution, strategic planning, marketing and finance.
