Stockton Named NJ Smart Workplace

By Press Release

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) named The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey a NJ Smart Workplace.
The NJDOT recognizes workplaces by designating platinum, gold, silver and bronze awards to organizations and individuals who help reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by providing commuter benefits.
Joseph Lizza, assistant director of Stockton’s College Center, said, “This year Stockton reached the silver-level for various initiatives, but most importantly for the commitment of the College Center to providing ongoing education to students at the annual new student information fair and for providing material highlighting alternative transportation options.”
Cross County Connection of Marlton nominated Stockton for the recognition. However, to receive the silver-level recognition, Stockton had to meet four of the NJDOT bronze requirements and three of the silver requirements.
With over 7,500 students scattered across Stockton’s 2,000-acre campus, getting to class on time can be a task. However, with plenty of alternative transportation options available, students can rely less on trekking to class by foot.
Stockton offers two shuttles that operate Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Each shuttle covers its own on-campus route.
On weekdays during the spring and fall semesters, an off-campus shuttle runs to and from the Absecon train station. Students with identification ride for free, and faculty and staff can purchase tickets at the college’s Bursar’s Office, where one ride can be bought for only 50 cents.
The NJ Transit bus schedule can be accessed easily from Stockton’s homepage by clicking on the Community & Visitors tab. Stockton also has a Web site devoted to on- and off-campus transportation schedules, parking information and construction updates.
