Select Registry Collection of Boutique Properties Welcomes Historic Carroll Villa Hotel

By Press Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Select Registry, a diverse collection of independent, boutique properties, is pleased to welcome Carroll Villa Hotel to its membership. The award-winning boutique hotel and its Mad Batter restaurant are located in the heart of historic Cape May, less than a block from the beach.
“We are delighted to welcome Caroll Villa Hotel and its owners, Mark and Pam Kulkowitz, to Select Registry,” said Select Registry CEO Mark Jaronski. “This luxurious hotel brings to our collection another historic, award-winning property that offers guests incomparable service, modern amenities and an enviable location.”
The Carroll Villa has a unique history. The building was first built in 1882. Lore has it that owner Harry Kulkowitz, Mark’s father, won the property in a poker game in 1976. At the time, it was in disrepair, but he had visions for it as a grand inn and restaurant. Harry’s dreams paid off and the hotel’s Mad Batter restaurant soon helped put Cape May on the map as a dining destination. Harry’s son, Mark, was in the Army at the time he won the Carroll Villa. When he came to see it, he met and fell in love with one of his father’s staff, Pam Huber. The two married and have run the Carroll Villa together for the past thirty years. Today, their three children help them manage the hotel and restaurant.
As with all Select Registry properties, the Carroll Villa Hotel offers guests luxurious amenities in an intimate setting. The hotel has 19 guests rooms that combine Victorian and modern designs and are furnished with an eclectic blend of Eastlake, Craftsman and mid-century modern pieces. Beach towels are provided in room. Mad Batter Restaurant is routinely ranked as one of Cape May’s best restaurants. Guests receive a $30 voucher toward breakfast and a 30 percent savings if they dine at the restaurant for lunch or dinner. For its service, the hotel has received numerous awards including Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence for the past six years.
