CAPE MAY – The sun came out, the surf came up and Jerry Blavat came to the beach here to rock n roll.
On Saturday Aug. 29, by afternoon, the only remaining effect of Tropical Depression Danny was some good surfing. Meanwhile on the beach, there was no sign of depression, just good time rock n roll from “The Geator with the Heater,” Jerry Blavat ,who led the audience in “The Stroll,” and other Philadelphia dance floor favorites.
Blavat told the crowd, of mostly over-age-55 beachgoers, that this year marked his 50th year in show business. He called out the name of Philly high schools to the delight of the crowd and joked with the dancers that one woman dancing in a bikini looked like Sharon Stone and another couple like Sonny and Cher.
With a blue sky, high surf and classic rock, it looked a bit like Dick’s Clark’s Malibu Beach TV Show from the 60’s “Where The Action Is.”
Mayor Edward J. Mahaney Jr. escorted Blavat to the beach where a stage and large sound system was set up.
