COURT HOUSE — The Cape Regional Medical Center recently took delivery of a Duramedic Ambulance. According to a release, “This is exciting news for the medical center’s ambulance paramedics as it means more efficient transports as well as increased comfort and convenience for their patients.”
The Duramedic is equipped for long distance runs such as transfers to other hospitals that are out of the Cape May County area, and it incorporates a new “patientcentric design.”
It is outfitted with a DVD player and wireless headset for the patient to listen to music or watch a movie during the transfer; it also features a small refrigerator, so the staff can provide a small meal or snack for the patient.
Mechanically, the new vehicle repositions key ambulance features so the emergency medical technicians have better, more efficient access to patients during transport while at the same time improving safety for all involved, the release stated.
The new system adds the technology of fully operational GPS navigation along with privacy tinted rear windows, sound barrier undercoating and all LED lighting.
“The Duramedic’s benefits are based on patient comfort. It provides a more comfortable transfer for our patients from our facility to others. This ultimately improves the patient hospital experience,” stated Nancy McDevitt, Cape Regional Medical Center Ambulance Coordinator.
“The community is offered a state-of-the-art emergency vehicle that is capable of transporting 9-1-1 patients to the Emergency Department or trauma units in a much safer and efficient vehicle.
It allows the emergency medical technicians to better control a patient’s heightened level of anxiety. With the heavier suspension and noise reduction, it is easier to access patient vitals with greater accuracy,” McDevitt stated.
