By Press Release

OCEAN CITY – As a sponsor of an online financial education program known as Financial Freedom, Ocean City Home Bank is helping area schools meet the States standards for financial literacy. The program, which is certified by the State of New Jersey and maps to current Core Curriculum standards for financial literacy among high school students, covers hundreds of topics, from credit scores to student loans, and from mortgages to retirement plans.
Atlantic County Institute of Technology, Ocean City High School, Egg Harbor Township High School, Our Lady Star of the Sea and Pleasantville High School are actively using Financial Freedom, and several other area schools are completing the training phase and will soon begin working with the program. Ocean City Home Banks sponsorship allows high schools within the banks market areas to use the program free of charge.
For years, Ocean City Home Bank has understood the importance of teaching financial literacy and has worked to teach children the importance of saving and spending responsibly, said Steve Brady, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ocean City Home Bank. Weve offered our Kids Club customers educational newsletters and incentives for saving, and weve given financial seminars at area schools. This online program is allowing us to reach even more young people with the information and tools they need to manage their finances.
When schools such as Egg Harbor Township High School and Our Lady Star of the Sea began working with the program, their students received much more than a login password. The kickoff event at Egg Harbor Township High School was filled with celebration and education, as representatives from EverFi, Ocean City Home Bank, and the school districts gathered to cut a ribbon for the program and conducted fun, interactive and informative activities to support the online program.
Toward the end of the school year, representatives from Ocean City Home Bank and EverFi spent an hour with about 40 Egg Harbor Township High School students who have been actively using the modules, said Kathy Rubba, First Vice President of Business Development at Ocean City Home Bank. We held a student discussion panel, in which the students talked about their experiences with the program. Then several bank representatives led smaller discussion groups, and we ended the session with an interactive game of Financial Literacy Jeopardy. It was a great way to kick off the program, discover what the students have learned so far, and get them even more excited about using the program.
Created by EverFi, Financial Freedom is an interactive, 10-module, 6-hour program designed specifically for high school students. The platform tracks individual student progress and knowledge gain, ultimately providing students who successfully complete the course with certification in financial literacy. High school teachers and administrators who would like more information on Financial Freedom, should contact Ocean City Home Bank at (609) 927-7722.
