New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells Commends the Wildwoods for Taking Two Top National Tourism Honors

By Herald Staff

New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells recently recognized the Wildwoods for being named one of Time.com’s 50 Authentic American Experiences and one of Sherman’s Travel’s Top 10 American Boardwalks.

“The Wildwoods have long been championed as the quintessential Jersey Shore experience, and these two great national honors from Time.com and Sherman’s Travel highlight this fact,” said Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells. “From amusement piers, great food, entertainment for every age group and budget, widest beach in the state – one of the top 10 in New Jersey and it’s free – and, of course, its legendary boardwalk, the Wildwoods experience is truly one to behold; it’s uniquely New Jersey, and goes a long way in explaining why the Jersey Shore remains such a popular, iconic attraction year after year.”

The Wildwoods have worked diligently over the years to position themselves as the top New Jersey family destination, offering an array of attractions, amusements and events for people of all ages to enjoy. The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) oversees the branding, marketing, advertising and public relations for the five-mile resort.

John Siciliano, Executive Director for the GWTIDA, said the following about the tourism honors: “We are extremely proud of receiving these two honors. Being named one of the nation’s Top 10 Boardwalks and 50 Authentic American Experiences says a lot about the Wildwoods, who we are and what we have to offer. It is a tribute to everyone who works hard to make the Wildwoods a premier family destination.”

The Wildwoods were named one of Time.com’s 50 Authentic American Experiences for 2009. For this list, Time chose one location from each of the 50 states to be a part of the list. The Wildwoods were chosen not only for being one of New Jersey’s most important historic musical sites, but for their one-of-a-kind boardwalk and unique “doo-wop” ambiance.
The Wildwoods Boardwalk was listed as one of the nation’s Top 10 American Boardwalks for 2009 by Sherman’s Travel. The Wildwoods Boardwalk was added to Sherman’s 2009 list for many reasons including its amusements piers, waterparks, tram cars and exceptional boardwalk food. But the primary reason the Wildwoods Boardwalk was added to this year’s list is because it offers something for everyone in the family – from kids to adults.
