By Press Release

New Jersey American Water will replace approximately 5,000 feet of aging wastewater main in Ocean City this fall. The company will replace the aging wastewater lines, installed as far back as the 1930s, along the following streets:

  • 11th Street from West Avenue to the boardwalk.
  • Ocean Avenue from 13th Street to midway between Eighth and Ninth Street.
  • 10th Street from Ocean Avenue to the boardwalk.
  • 12th Street from Wesley Avenue to the boardwalk.

This $1.8 million investment will continue to advance wastewater service reliability and support continued growth in Ocean City. This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water and wastewater infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life, in more than 100 communities across the state.
Perna Finnigan, New Jersey American Water’s qualified contractor, began work Sept. 16, and expects to finish in approximately 12 to 15 weeks, weather permitting.
Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, through Oct. 31. Beginning Nov. 1, work hours will shift to Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work outside of these hours is not anticipated, unless required to maintain the project schedule.
Final street restorations will be completed in the spring of 2020.
For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction.
