Mike’s Seafood Polar Bear Run/Walk for Autism Continues to Prove Great Success

By Sponsored Content

The 8th Annual Mike’s Seafood Polar Bear Run/Walk for Autism was held this past Valentine’s Day on Sunday, Feb. 14. Despite the 17-degree weather, the day turned out to be bright, sunny and a huge success. The fun-filled event capped off Sea Isle City’s Polar Bear Plunge Weekend.
Approximately 1,800 runners and walkers participated to raise funds and awareness for children with autism.
“We are very thankful to have the chance to bring autism awareness to so many people,” said Mike Monichetti, owner of Mike’s Seafood, who organizes the event along with his wife Jeannie. “Any day you can do something for children with disabilities, it’s a good day!” expressed Mike.
The run/walk took place at JFK and the Boardwalk, Sea Isle City, at 12 noon. Trophies were awarded to the top male and female runners, which were Zach Miller, 32, of Brookhaven, Pa. with a time of 16:00, and Alyssa Aldridge, 15, of Lindwood, N.J. with a time of 17:55.
Following the 5K run/1 mile family fun walk, participants came back to a huge heated tent at the LaCosta Complex for the awards ceremony, a large continental buffet, music and awesome door prizes, as well as clowns, face painting and magicians for the children.
Proceeds from the annual run/walk go to Autism Speaks, special services schools, autism support groups and families of special-needs children. This year’s fundraising efforts produced extraordinary results with nearly $100,000 raised.
Mike’s Seafood would like to thank all participants, sponsors and volunteers who made this year’s event such an overwhelming success.
