Lynn Arden’s Closes its Doors After 35 Years; Holds Huge Retirement Sale

By Gia Gallone

After 35 years in business, it is with great sadness that Lynn and Jack Kramer say goodbye to Lynn Arden’s Children Shoppe and their wonderful customers.
Lynn Arden’s roots trace back to May of 1883, when it was first built as a residential home in Victorian style on Washington Street, Cape May. When people began converting the houses along Washington Street into shops, a woman named Mrs. Connelly decided to open the site as a children’s shop. Following Mrs. Connelly, her daughter Mrs. Bragg continued to run the shop. In May of 1983, 100 years after the initial erection of the building, Lynn and Jack Kramer purchased the building. Lynn wished to keep it as a children’s shop, and when Jack asked what she knew about running a store like that, she replied, “I raised four children, that’s good enough!”
Lynn Arden’s became known as a retailer of high-quality, fashionable children’s clothing at reasonable prices. From the beginning, Lynn Arden’s employees boasted excellent customer service skills, and the motto became, “The customer is always right.” Lynn had created a fine reputation for the store in the Cape May community.
In December 2007, after receiving clearance from the Greater Cape May Historical Society, Lynn and Jack tore down the original building and built a completely new building that kept with Cape May’s popular Victorian style. This new building, complete with a third floor addition, opened in spring 2008, and won a historical preservation award for its architecture and design.
It is with great reluctance that Lynn and Jack close Lynn Arden’s Children Shoppe, as it was a very important part of their lives for 35 years. Their daughter, Jennifer, helped run the shop 21 years ago while she was pregnant, and when her little girl was born, she named her Arden.
Lynn and Jack are currently running a retirement sale which calls for the liquidation of all merchandise and fixtures at outstanding prices. They invite their customers to come by and say goodbye, and enjoy their retirement sale.
Although Lynn and Jack are bidding a fond farewell to all of their friends and customers, they will still be around the Cape May area.
Lynn Arden’s is located at 325 Washington St., Cape May. For more information, call (609) 884-8643.
