Art of Gymnastics & Cheer, located in Cape May Court House, is the only training center in the entire state of New Jersey to offer three competitive venues: competition dance teams, competition gymnastics teams and competition cheerleading teams. In July, the academy, boasting approximately 250+ students, ended their competitive season with a bang!
In May, the competitive gymnastics team traveled to Freehold, N.J. for the State Gymnastics Championships. Art of Gymnastics & Cheer is proud to announce that they are now home to the USAIGC N.J. State Champion Gymnast! Alyssa Jordan competed against 74 other gymnasts and 24 other gymnastics academies in the state in her age division and dominated! She came in third on balance beam, third on uneven bars, sixth on floor exercise and first on vault. Her combined scores on all four events (uneven parallel bars, balance beam, vaulting and floor exercise) earned her Top Gymnast in New Jersey!
Also at the N.J. State Gymnastics Meet, Art of Gymnastics & Cheer had not one, but two State Champions on the floor exercise in their respected divisions. Daniella Oliver won First Place Floor Exercise State Champion with a 9.575, and Kaylee Schwert won First Place Floor Exercise State Champion with a whopping score of 9.85. Kaylee made history with this score! This score earned Kaylee the highest event score of all 1,040+ gymnasts from all 42 gymnastics academies that competed at the State Championships. It should come as no surprise that Art of Gymnastics & Cheer earned the highest scoring floor exercise cumulative score out of every single team and level that competed at States! They dominated the floor exercise event, finishing with a huge score of 28.925 out of a possible 30.000. Art of Gymnastics & Cheer also earned third place team out of 15 teams in their level.
Art of Gymnastics & Cheer’s fantastic all-star cheerleading teams dominated their season as well! They won several first place championships, Grand Champions and National Champions in their divisions, and also received the full paid bid to the North American Spirit Tournament held in Atlantic City! Art of Gymnastics & Cheer’s cheerleading teams, Jersey Spirit Elite, offer cheerleading to all children ages 4 years old and up.
Finishing off their competitive season, Art of Gymnastics & Cheer competed at the U.S. Tournament of Dance National Dance Championships in Atlantic City. The dance team came out with very strong wins! Seven students from the academy were chosen for the U.S. Acrobatic & Dance Teams including: Maddison Frame, Will Davis, Cordelia O’Such, Daniela Smith, Haylie Rowlands, Kaylee Schwert and Itai Serra. Will Davis earned the title of Young Mister Acrobat of the U.S. and Lylah Knudsen won Petite Miss Acrobat of the U.S. Daniela Smith and Itai Serra were also the overall winners of the acrobatic workshop classes in the Junior and Senior divisions. These two dancers also, ironically, won the Contortion Flexibility awards in the Junior and Senior divisions. The academy won several overall awards and the director, Mr. Jeff, won the Overall Outstanding Choreographer of the Year in the Junior division. The academy was also awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Precision Arts Dance Championships for this season based upon the academy’s uniqueness, style, technique, grace and elegance as announced by the judges.
Art of Gymnastics & Cheer is located at 28 Indian Trail Rd. (diagonally across from Home Depot). The academy offers many recreational classes for children who want to have fun and may not be interested in competitions. They offer classes ranging from ballet and tap, to aerial arts and gymnastics, to parkour! They offer classes for children as young as 9 months all the way through adult.
