Halloween Comes Early To Cape May

By Jack Fichter

CAPE MAY – The nation’s oldest seaside resort held its annual Halloween Parade Sun., Oct. 24.
The afternoon began with two hours of trick or treating on the Washington Street Mall with merchants providing the goodies.
The parade stepped off at the mall at 3 p.m. and wound its way up Washington Street to the Emlen Physick Estate where prizes were awarded for the best costumes.
The parade included the Quaker City String Band, Lower Cape May Regional High School Band and the Wildwood Warrior Band. A big crowd pleaser was the Joannne Reagan Dancers who stopped a number of the times along the parade route to present a production number from the Broadway version of the Addams Family.
Mayor Edward J. Mahaney Jr., who presented awards, said it was the largest crowd and the most participants he recalled seeing in the parade.
