BURLEIGH — One hundred children will start school this year with their hair trimmed thanks to Hair Cuttery.
From Aug. 1-15, each time someone 18 years old or younger got a haircut in the Rio Grande or North Cape May Hair Cuttery, a free haircut was donated to a child in need in the local area through the “Share a Haircut” program. There are three of the firm’s salons in Cumberland and two in Atlantic counties that also took part in the program.
Beatrix Ellerbe Jerkins, chief executive officer, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, accepted the hundred haircuts from Susan Bonder, Hair Cuttery district leader and Rosie Price, salon leader from Bayshore Mall at the Aug. 20 Cape May County Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting at Wildwood Country Club.
Sharing Haircuts program is something that Hair Cuttery has done annually, according to Bonder.
Included in the donation is a shampoo and blow dry for Cape May County children under age 18.
“This is our way of giving back as an organization,” said Bonder.
Jerkins said that over 500 children were served in the two counties by Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
