Family Promise of Cape May County had the grand opening of its thrift and consignment shop at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21. Full of Promise Thrift Shop, located at 3156 Rt. 9 S., Rio Grande in the unit where Allstate Insurance was located next door to Green Street Market.
The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by the Van Drew Team of Jeff Van Drew, Bob Andrzejczak and Bruce Hand. Family Promise volunteers and supporters turned out in great numbers to witness the ribbon cutting and purchase items from the thrift shop. The shop earned $1,720 for the day.
The notion for a thrift and consignment store came to Laurie Johnson, Executive Director for Family Promise as she was introduced to the idea by another Family Promise organization having a successful go at it. “There’s a lot of excitement about this undertaking. We are thankful to have volunteers who have already signed up to work at the thrift store,” says Laurie. “And, we’re still seeking more help.” Laurie says that the thrift and consignment store represents another way that Family Promise can fulfill its mission: to keep families together during times of crisis, one family at a time.
The items for sale include jewelry, clean and lightly used or NEW fall/winter clothing, DVDs and CDs new in the package, kitchen items appearing new, and unusual items like new. There are a few types of items that the shop can’t take such as mattresses, used underwear, appliances, TVs, stuffed animals, open CDs, games and more.
Stop in and do your holiday shopping. For store hours, go to Family Promise Thrift Shop’s Facebook page, visit www.FamilyPromiseCMC.org or call (609) 846-7862 ext. 9.
