Looking for a unique family experience at the shore, or maybe a night out with the guys or girls? Head to Escape May in Rio Grande, Cape May County’s original escape room! During this live action adventure, you’ll race to solve clues, puzzles and riddles to escape before time runs out. Prepare to find your inner detective!
Escape May has three fun-filled, themed rooms waiting for you and your team to escape:
The Lounge, beginner, 4-8 people – Mr. Jenson was a famous author of children’s books and riddle books. He did most of his writing in the lounge. It is rumored that he hid many of his ideas in there, fearful that someone would steal them. He made sure that the only way to get out of the lounge was if you figured out his secrets.
The Billiard Room, intermediate, 4-10 people – Mrs. Farley loved to entertain guests in her beautiful billiard room. She became so obsessed with having guests over, that she never wanted them to leave. She decided to design her billiard room so that once her guests arrived, they could never go home.
The Library, advanced, 4-10 people – The old mansion up on the hill was owned by Old Man Albert. He spent most of his days in his library, playing chess over the phone with his good friend or reading a good book while enjoying a glass of home brewed whiskey. He was very protective of his things, and made sure that anyone who tried to go into his library that didn’t belong would never get out.
You and your team have one hour to use anything and everything to escape one of these rooms. Bring the family for a fun night out, celebrate a bachelor or bachelorette, or come with coworkers for a great team-building exercise. Additionally, Escape May has a large party/meeting room for birthdays and corporate events. All ages are welcome to put phones and tablets aside for an hour of pure brain games.
Escape May is family owned by the Bechtler/McCorriston Family, a local family originally from Philadelphia. Living locally and having young children, the family saw a great need for something like this in Cape May County. The family loves action, adventure and problem solving, and after attending a few escape rooms elsewhere, they felt opening one in Cape May County would be the perfect solution to that need. The family is passionate about giving locals something to do in the off-season, and giving visitors something else to do alongside the typical shore experience.
After much brainstorming from the entire Bechtler/McCorriston Family – a family of “outside of the box” thinkers – they were able to create original ideas that you won’t find at any other escape room. “It’s been a true collaborative effort, with every family member playing his or her part,” shares Eileen Bechtler.
Escape May is celebrating its official grand opening on Saturday, May 20 with a live broadcast by 98.7 The Coast, plus giveaways every hour on the hour for free passes and more!
Escape May is located in the Rio Grande Plaza Shopping Center in Rio Grande and is open year round. Reservations are recommended but walk-ins are welcome. Book your Escape May experience online at escapemay.net. For more information, call (609) 600-2302.
