You’ve all seen those movies and TV programs (The Andy Griffith Show comes to mind), where the town characters gather at the local barber shop to discuss world problems with the closest thing they have to the Oracle of Delphi—their trusted friend and tonsorial expert, the neighborhood barber.
Sam Repici has held that role more than four generations at Sam’s Barber Shop, 19 Mechanic Street in Court House. Simply put, it’s where all the regulars come for a cut and the latest news on what’s going on around town.
But now Repici is semi-retiring after 44 years—rather unexpectedly.
He didn’t plan it this way, but opportunity knocked, and like his many of his customers; it found him available for a chat.
Headlines Professional Hair Care approached him about renting space in his building. This sudden change required some thought, so after ample consideration, Repici determined that the timing couldn’t be better. He decided to semi-retire, and merge with Headlines.
The 19 Mechanic Street location will be closed for total renovation to the entire bottom floor, and will reopen in March as Headlines Professional Hair Care. In the meantime, Sam will be cutting hair on Tuesday and Wednesday by appointment beginning February 12 at the current Headlines location at Main and Mechanic.
Repici admits it’s been a great career helping to keep Cape May County well-groomed for 44 years. During that time, he has employed staff members who came to work with him right out of hairdressing school — some of whom have gone on to operate their own business.
“I’m just proud that I could have contributed to their success in some small way,” Repici noted.
For more than four generations, families have been coming to Sam’s Barbershop for a personalized experience that they felt they could get nowhere else.
“Thank you for letting me serve all of you in our community with my haircuts,” Repici said gratefully. “It has been a great career with each haircut being a different experience.”
And that experience won’t stop, thanks to the merger with Headlines.
Make an appointment with Repici at the Main and Mechanic streets location on Tuesdays and Wednesdays by calling (609) 465-5533.
