Family Service Association Receives a $9,000 Donation from The Charity League

By Press Release

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Family Service Association recently was awarded a $9,000 donation from The Charity League. These funds will be used to provide educational and socialization activities for parents and children. Additionally, much needed client assistance funds will be offered to parents in the Family Life Center program and in the Parents as Teachers program. The Family Life Center (FLC) is a program that rebuilds the family unit. This includes families that have been negatively impacted by incidences of child abuse and/or neglect. Families are referred by the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P). FLC provides supervised visits, parenting education and life skills classes that utilize evidence based curriculums. “We bring the child and the parent together. We teach parents how to parent and cope with life’s many stressors while modeling and coaching proper interactions with their children,” states Cindy Herdman Ivins, FSA President/CEO. The Parents as Teachers (PAT) program is an evidenced-based home visitation program that provides in-home health and parenting education, and supportive services to at risk families, especially those overburdened by stressors that may contribute to child neglect and abuse.
The generous support of The Charity League has enabled FSA to be a safety net for those women and children whose needs do not fit within the parameters of program contracts. Funding assists these parents by providing program activities, contributing to rent deposits, and purchasing beds, other household furnishings and infant/ toddler care items. Torrina Bennett-Michael, Chief Development Officer, says, “The Charity League values the work that FSA does and our impact within the community. Over the years, the agency has benefitted greatly from the longstanding partnership. This relationship has strengthened and enhanced our services to women and children in our community.”
