CLERMONT — Cape May County Association of REALTORS® (CMCAR®) will usher in the spring buying season by joining realtors across the country for Open House Weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Here in New Jersey the event is sponsored by the New Jersey Association of REALTORS®.
During Open House Weekend, CMCAR® members will be conducting open houses in Cape May County in order to reach prospective buyers looking to capitalize on the federal home buyer tax credit.
Open House Weekend comes just before the April 30, 2010, deadline for the tax credit. First-time and repeat buyers must have a written, binding contract in place by April 30, and close by June 30, to be eligible for the credits.
First-time buyers, or those who have not owned a home in the past three years, may qualify for up to $8,000. Repeat buyers who have owned a home for five of the past eight years may take advantage of up to $6,500 ($3,200 for those who are filing separately) in tax credits.
Specific information on the tax credits, income limits, other restrictions and the Open House event can be found on NJAR®’s public Web site, www.REAL story NJ.com.
“Talk about a win-win situation. Open House Weekend is a great opportunity for buyers to get out and see as many homes as they can, at their convenience, all in one weekend. It gives sellers increased visibility for their homes as they join with their REALTORS® to be part of this massive effort to spur the spring market,” said Carol Anderson, CMCAR® president.
She adds that the weekend will be a fun way to attract out–of-state buyers, as well, to help them learn more about what is available in the Garden State market.
Buyers should look for NJAR®’s open house logo or blue balloons featuring the REALTOR® “R” in white to locate homes that are part of the widespread open house campaign.
