COURT HOUSE — The Cape May County Department of Tourism is sponsoring a marketing program in cooperation with the county and local chambers of commerce to solicit business participation to help target French Canadian travelers before they make their vacation plans.
According to a release, “The strong patronage of the Quebecois for the beaches of the Jersey Cape is reaching a milestone anniversary in Summer, 2010 and the business community is planning a celebration.”
Loyalty will pay big dividends for our Canadian neighbors as businesses throughout Cape May County honor the citizens of the Quebec province for 40 years of patronage by offering special savings, attractive discounts and at-par rates.
“Companies and organizations desiring to target French Canadian visitors can take advantage of the marketing program simply by offering a discount,” said Diane Wieland, director of tourism for Cape May County.
“The goal of the marketing program called “Passport to Savings” is to persuade travelers from Quebec to choose Cape May County as a vacation destination by offering at-par deals and attractive discounts as an added incentive to choose Cape May County as their vacation destination,” added Wieland.
Businesses can easily take advantage of the marketing campaign simply by visiting the website www.njsouthernshore.com Interested participants will select the text “Celebrating Anniversaire 40” and click on the words online form here to access the form for entrée into the program. The form will gather all the required information to take part in the marketing program and participation is free to all registrants.
According to the recent research sponsored by the Cape May County Department of Tourism, the Quebec province has increased to the county’s fourth largest visitor market right after New York in terms of the amount of visitors to the county.
The increase in travelers from the French Canadian province of Quebec is due in large part to a marketing campaign in Canada including public relations, advertising and consumer travel shows in Canada managed by the Department of Tourism for more than 40 years.
“Our research shows marketing efforts, managed by the Department of Tourism in cooperation with a public relations consultant located in Montreal, are paying big dividends in terms of awareness of Cape May County as a vacation destination in the Quebec province,” said Wieland.
The 40th Anniversary “Passport to Savings” coupon booklet will be translated into French and handed directly to thousands of attendees at the Montreal Sportsmen’s show as well as distributed to vacation planners at the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) offices located throughout the Province of Quebec.
The anniversary campaign will also be advertised in French publications such as CAA Touring Magazine, La Presse, Le Soleil and the Westmont Examiner newspaper group as well as on radio stations located in Montreal. Public Relations Consultant for the Cape May County Department of Tourism in Canada, Nicolle Dufour, is working with more than 100 media outlets to generate interest among Canadian journalists.
Canadian travelers have been enjoying the pristine beaches, bright sunshine and abundance of amusements and activities in Cape May County since the early 1970s, when it seemed as if the northern residents flocked to the seashore en masse. “It seemed that way because they were coming here in very large numbers and now those who visited the Jersey Cape as children in the ’70s and ’80s are bringing their children,” explained Wieland.
