County Clerk Warns of Costly Mail Solicitation

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti stated, in a release, that she has heard from a number of citizens complaining about a recent mailing from National Deed Service, Inc. of Northbrook, Ill. urging property owners to pay that company $69.50 for a certified copy of their deed.
“Cape May County property owners should not be alarmed by this solicitation; nor should they feel compelled to spend $69.50 for a copy of their document. Once a document is recorded in the County Clerk’s Office it is a matter of public record and easily accessible to the property owner or anyone with a need for the information,” she stated.
The statutory fee the County Clerk charges for a certified copy of a deed is approximately $15 depending on the number of pages; significantly less than the $69.50 charged by this commercial enterprise.” said Fulginiti.
Property owners are welcome to call the Record Room at (609) 465-1020 for information or stop at the County Clerk’s Office, N. Main Street.
“I will be happy to provide a copy at no fee to anyone who received this solicitation.” Fulginiti said.
