CREST HAVEN — For just under $1.6 million, freeholders bought development easements in Upper Township that set aside just over 39 acres.
On July 14, the board approved a resolution that, through the Cape May County Agriculture Development Board, purchased a parcel owned by Marjorie B. Bixby, Stoddard C. Bixby, a former Upper Township committeeman, and Elizabeth Gutermuth.
For Block 348, Lots 88, 88.01 and 92, $44,500 per acre was paid, and for Block 415, Lot 1 and Block 416, Lot 1, $20,500 per acre was accepted by the sellers, according to the resolution.
Thus, development rights for 32.094 acres at 1441-1479 Route 50 were secured for $1,428,450, and a contract for development rights for 7.1 acres at 145 Route 50 was secured for $145,500.
The parcels are now part of the county’s inventory of farmland that has been preserved from future development.
