The Cape May County Coast Guard Community Foundation is pleased to announce Kathy Gibbons as recipient of the Coast Guard Community Spouse of the Year award. This award is presented to a Coast Guard spouse who encompasses the spirit of the United States Coast Guard, and is dedicated to serving others by generously giving back to the community.
Kathy, a military spouse for the past thirty-three years, has built meaningful relationships in each new “hometown” community that she and her husband Captain Owen Gibbons and daughter Kaitlin have been a part of. The Gibbons have called Cape May County home for three tours during their military tenure.
Kathy, an honorary board member of the nonprofit Jersey Cape Military Spouses Club (JCMSC), is a tireless advocate for United States Coast Guard families. She has volunteered countless hours to numerous programs, including: The Guardian Spouse program, Stockings for Recruits, and the Educational Scholarship Committee. These programs seek to improve opportunities for those who are devoting their lives to serve our country while being a part of Cape May County.
Kathy mentors new families coming to Cape May, always willing to help them get settled and encouraging them to get involved in the community. When the thirty-five day government shutdown occurred, she immediately joined the Pantry Committee working alongside volunteers, while mentoring the Leadership Team to deal with the unique challenges posed by this unprecedented crisis. Without her continuous support and assistance, the Food Pantry would not have been the success that it was.
Following the partial government shutdown, Kathy took the lead in coordinating a financial seminar series for military families. Partnering with individuals, local businesses, and non-profit organizations, Kathy made financial planning advice accessible to military families in a multi-week format.
The Cape May County Coast Guard Community Foundation applauds Kathy’s philanthropic ways. Kathy’s diligence, determination, and kind heart has made a positive impact on the many she has touched.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
