Cape Urgent Care Celebrates 10 Years

May 2016 marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of Cape Urgent Care. The walk-in medical practice is located at 900 Route 109, Cape May, next to Cape Liquors at the end of the Parkway. Dr. William Weisberg, a Board Certified Emergency Physician, is the founder and medical director.
“Back in 2006, I saw the need for an urgent care center in Cape May County,” stated Dr. Weisberg. “I must admit it was a little scary when only six patients showed up the first day. But soon the word spread and more and more patients started arriving. It is really amazing how welcoming the community has been. It has always been my goal to treat patients like friends and family, and that policy pays off in both more patients and a better experience for patients and doctors alike.”
When the practice first opened in 2006, Dr. Ken Cramer, who also has extensive Emergency Room experience, joined Dr. Weisberg. Since then, they have welcomed Dr. Teresa Carlin who has both ER and Pediatric ER experience. The team includes physician assistants David Perry, Jennifer Saunders and Andrea March. An excellent staff of nurses, med techs, X-ray techs, clerical workers and administrative workers complements the practice.
According to Dr. Weisberg, the urgent care center has had over 200,000 patient visits since opening its doors in 2006. In the early days, many people were not familiar with the term “urgent care,” but they soon learned that they could show up without an appointment between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. seven days a week. It became a “one-stop shop” where patients could receive an exam, X-rays, sutures, splints, braces, crutches and other services at a single location.
The center is independent and not associated with any other practice or hospital. It is the only urgent care in South Jersey to be certified by the Urgent Care Association of America. Services are usually covered by insurance, but those without insurance are charged reasonable rates. While Cape Urgent Care does treat minor emergencies, Dr. Weisberg stresses that severe emergencies such as heart attack and stroke symptoms should be handled by 9-1-1.
When asked if he had ever thought about expanding to other locations, Dr. Weisberg replied that he feels he has something very special here and fears that expansion might jeopardize that. “It might be more lucrative, but it was never about that. It was always about practicing the kind of medicine I dreamed of: top quality professional and efficient care that is provided in a warm, friendly and compassionate environment. The last 10 years have been truly blessed.”
