COURT HOUSE – The question: What do lacrosse and field hockey at Middle Township High School and The 14th Annual Bellevue Golf Classic have in common? Answer: A scoreboard.
According to a release, Dennis Roberts, owner of The Bellevue Tavern here and vice president of the Middle Township Board of Education, has run the golf tournament which supports Middle Township youth sports programs for 14 years.
This year, $1,500 from the proceeds was donated to the high school to help in the purchase of a portable electronic scoreboard for the field hockey and lacrosse field behind the school.
Until now, parents and fans of these sports had to try to keep track of the scores on their own. Senior lacrosse player Danielle O’Connor asked, “Will it have a game clock?”
Yes. “Having the time will be better, and actually knowing the correct score will be better. I don’t really look at the score, but my mom and dad will like it.” When senior Josh Vitola heard about the addition of the scoreboard, he stated, “That’s awesome…this is great.”
Athletic Director Scott Lodgek said of the donation from the Bellevue Classic, “We appreciate the continued support of Dennis Roberts and his tournament.” Lodgek placed the order for the scoreboard immediately after receiving the donation from Roberts in late September; he is hoping that it will be on the field before the end of the fall sports season.
So, for parents and athletes who use the fields, the new board will show the scores for all teams at future games, but, said Roberts, “The true winners of the golf tournament are the children of Middle Township.”
Cape May County – I’d like to suggest to the Herald that they leverage spout offs draw and replace some of the ads for their paper with a few paid ads that you probably can charge a little extra for. Lots of people…
