For their decades-long work preserving New Jersey history, Joe and Annie Salvatore were honored by the New Jersey Hall of Fame (NJHOF) with the 2019 Unsung Heroes Award.
The Hall of Fame’s website describes the award as recognizing “game-changers in the state of New Jersey.” Having founded the NASW Aviation Museum and Historic Cold Spring Village, the Salvatores fit the description.
Jon Hanson, chairman of the NJHOF, offered congratulations, and said, “I am quite familiar with Joe and Annie Salvatore’s many good works and they are richly deserving of this honor.”
The Salvatores received their award Oct. 27 at the Hall of Fame’s 11-year anniversary induction ceremony in Asbury Park.
Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located inside Historic Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport. The site was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center.
The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945.
