NORTH CAPE MAY — Acme celebrated the grand reopening of its renovated store here May 23 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and $1,500 in donations to local charities and police and fire department funds including $500 to the Vietnam Veterans of America, as well as contributions to the Lower Township Police Department to use for their Christmas Toy and Food Drive and Town Bank Volunteer Fire Company.
In partnership with Coca Cola, cartons of books were donated to Cape May Elementary School, Academy Preschool and North Cape Kids.
A who’s who of Lower Township officials attended including Mayor Walter Craig, Township Manager Joe Jackson, Councilman Glenn Douglas, Police Chief Edward Donohue, Town Bank Fire Chief Art Treon and Lower Township MUA Chairman Pete Bitting.
County Freeholder Ralph Bakley, Jr. complimented the new look of the store.
A large red ribbon was cut by Vietnam Vets of America Erma Chapter Vice President George Baldwin as the Acme staff stood by sporting big smiles.
“Premium fresh and healthy” is the theme of the changes to the supermarket, said Store Director Brett Katsiff. Additions to the store include a shrimp bar, more organic foods, a salad/soup bar, gourmet specialty and hot food bars and an A La Carte station, which features a carving area and a variety of made-to-order salads.
Customers will see a vast selection of new products in addition to remodeled signage and lighting.
Acme will donate a park bench made entirely from recycled plastic to the Millman Center. The benches are constructed using Trex composite lumber that is manufactured from both store and customer-generated plastic. Acme is also offering cloth bags for sale here for customers to reuse. Acme has recycled its plastic bags since 1993, but has recently expanded the program to include the creation of park benches.
