Local consulting firm Van Note-Harvey Associates, Inc. is celebrating its 125-year anniversary in 2019. The firm enjoys a long history of providing professional engineering, environmental and surveying services to the regions surrounding its Cape May Court House and Princeton offices, assisting in engineering design and development for several municipalities and countless public and private clients.

The firm traces its origins back to Charles Silas Sincerbeaux, a Princeton University graduate who opened his engineering and land surveying practice in Princeton in 1894, and subsequently performed the firm’s first survey work for Princeton University in 1903. In 1960, partners Edward Van Note and William Harvey incorporated and changed the firm name to Van Note-Harvey Associates, Inc.

Since that modest beginning, the firm has been in continuous operation through several ownership transitions. Through the progression of environmental law and technological advances, complementary disciplines such as wastewater design, environmental compliance, construction phase management, and 3D laser scanning were integrated into the firm’s core services, progressing into a true, comprehensive engineering consulting service.

Princeton University remains a client today, along with numerous academic, institutional, corporate and municipal clients, architects, and other design professionals.

Presently, VNHA is engaging in an active and enthusiastic continuity of ownership transition to maintain a vibrant atmosphere and contribute new ideas, while continuing to incorporate the latest technology. The firm’s longevity and sustained success is irrefutably the result of the commitment, flexibility, and responsiveness of its team, who recognize their role in leading the civil, environmental engineering, and land surveying professions into the future. The firm has been named by NJBIZ as one of the 2019 Best Places to Work.

VNHA believes that it is conceivable to create real-world designs, that are sensitive to environmental constraints and regulations, which reflect an enduring form of responsible and functional integrity. Therein lies the firm’s greatest value and commitment to their clients – developing project approaches that address the realities of budget, time, and sustainability, yielding the most practical solution to every engineering challenge. The firm maintains that goal on every project it takes on and plans to continue for the interminable future.

“The engineer’s world of tomorrow will be even more arduous than the present as we anticipate the evolving global and dynamic engineering landscape. Sustainability requirements, emerging technology, and increasingly complex standards have gone beyond the boundaries of traditional disciplines, requiring flexibility and vision to conceptualize and prepare for future endeavors. Continuing to provide our clients with exemplary service takes precedence in our organization.” – VNHA President and CEO, Donald Fetzer
