Bishop to Visit St. John’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church

By Press Release

OCEAN CITY – St. John’s By-The-Sea will welcome William “Chip” Stokes, Bishop of the Diocese of New Jersey, Aug. 27, 2017. Bishop Stokes will celebrate The Holy Eucharist at 9:00 a.m. All are invited to attend. A reception will follow.
The Bishop’s visit is especially fitting as the church heads toward 110 years of serving Avalon’s summer residents and visitors. The chapel is located at 25th Street and First Avenue in Avalon. Throughout the summer, starting with Memorial Day weekend until the end of September, Sunday services are held at 9:00 a.m.
Visitors may be surprised to learn that this summer chapel has a special and unique treasure: A large Louis Comfort Tiffany stained-glass window adorns the wall behind the altar. “When you see the sunlight coming through the glass on a Sunday morning, you feel the presence of the Lord,” said a recent visitor.
